Over 400 Special Olympics athletes from all eight wards of DC traveled to Catholic University to compete in the Olympic-style 2023 Summer Games this May 15-18th. It was a week full of triumph, and the culmination of a full season of hard work and preparation in soccer, volleyball, and track and field. Athletes ages 8 through 68 left it all on the playing field, taking home medals and memories that will last forever.

Our community showed up big time: over the course of 5 days, over 600 volunteers helped run races, games, awards, media, and overall logistics. We are so grateful — volunteers are the backbone of the Special Olympics movement!

Special Olympics DC programming will resume in late Summer, with Unified Bocce and Unified Tennis Night Leagues at Turkey Thicket, Unified Flag Football at DC universities, and in-school bocce, tennis, and golf.

If you are a new or returning athlete looking to register for the season, please email Director of Sports Phil Williams at pwilliams@specialolympicsdc.org!
