2024 Summer Games in the Books!

THANK YOU to our Special Olympics DC community for showing up to make this Summer Games unforgettable for over 800 Special Olympics athletes from all eight wards of DC. Over 650 volunteers from all walks of life helped make the magic happen.

Read on to see photos and our favorite moments of the week!

DAY 1 – Youth and Adults put their soccer skills to the test in individual skills competitions and team play. Washington Spirit professional soccer players came to cheer on athletes and award medals.

DAY 2 – Youth from over 25 DC Public and Charter Schools showed off their speed, competing in multiple track events: 4×4 Relay, 400M, 200M, 100M, 50M and more!  Over 300 volunteers made sure events ran smoothly!

DAY 2 – In the evening, our Adult Unified Community played for Gold in the Unified Volleyball Championship at UDC. The Gray Team took home the Championship win, though the friendships formed and skills built are the true prize from this league.

DAY 3 – Adult athletes gave it their all in field events such as mini javelin, long jump, and the softball throw, while Youth Unified Soccer Teams battled on the soccer field. Congratulations to first-year program Lafayette Elementary on their Unified Gold!

DAY 4 – No amount of rain could dampen our athletes, coaches, or volunteers’ spirits! As Youth competed in field events, Adults left it all on the track!

On behalf of all of the athletes, we recognize and appreciate all of the companies who sponsored the Summer Games.  Your financial support and employee volunteer power made it possible for more than 800 youth and adults to compete, demonstrate courage and experience joy!
