Law Enforcement Torch Run

The Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) is the largest public awareness vehicle and grass-roots fund raiser for Special Olympics. Known honorably as Guardians of the Flame, law enforcement members and Special Olympics athletes carry the “Flame of Hope” in to the Opening Ceremony of local competitions, and into Special Olympics State, Provincial, National, Regional and World Games.

Each year, hundreds of dedicated Law Enforcement officers participate in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run. The event shows our appreciation to local law enforcement for keeping our city safe, while also raising awareness and funds for individuals with intellectual disabilities. This 5K Walk/Run unites the community by bringing together law enforcement personnel and citizens all working towards the same goal of acceptance and inclusion.

This is a CERTIFIED 5K course and anyone can participate run or walk at your own pace.

Please join us for the 5K Run/Walk on Friday, September 23rd, 2022.

The Torch Run for Special Olympics engages law enforcement worldwide championing acceptance and inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities, starting first with their own communities. In the District, funds raised through this event help provide year-round sports, health and inclusion programs free of charge to DC residents. These programs are essential in helping Special Olympics DC athletes lead healthier lives and develop valuable skills that help them succeed and become self-advocates.
