Year-Round Sports Programs

Special Olympics DC offers year-round sports training and competition opportunities in 10 Olympic-type sports. The sports seasons culminate in three multi-sport championships: Summer Games, Fall Sports Classic, and Winter Sports Classic. In addition to these local competitions, the Special Olympics USA Games (held every 4 years) and World Games (held every 2 years) provide opportunities for athletes to compete on the national and world stage.

Motor Activities Training Program (MATP)

The Special Olympics Motor Activity Training Program is designed for athletes with severe or profound intellectual disability who are unable to participate in Official Special Olympics sport competitions because of their skill and/or functional abilities. The program provides fun, sport-specific activities appropriate for athletes at any ability level.

Young Athletes Program

Young Athletes™ is a sport and play program for 2-7 year olds with and without intellectual disabilities. Young Athletes helps participants develop motor skills, social, emotional and learning skills, and readiness to take part in Special Olympics DC sports and competition starting at 8 years old.

Unified Sports

Unified Sports® brings together people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same sports teams for training and competition. Special Olympics D.C. offers Unified Sports in basketball, soccer, volleyball, bocce, tennis, bowling, and track and field.
